IFAA Committee - Dr. Paul Donnelly

Paul Donnelly (PhD, University of Massachusetts at Amherst) is a senior lecturer/researcher in organisation studies and international business at Dublin Institute of Technology, and was previously at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is co-director of DIT’s Business, Society and Sustainability Research Centre and co-editor of Irish Business & Society: Governing, Participating & Transforming in the 21st Century (Gill & Macmillan, 2010). Prior to academia, he worked in various middle management roles with the former Irish public sector telecommunications company, Telecom Éireann. Paul has served on the IFAA Board since his return from the US, serving as Membership Secretary (2004-09) and Vice President (2009-11). In addition to serving as IFAA President (2011-13), he is an ex officio member of the Ireland United States Alumni Association Board (2011-13), and a member of the Governing Body of the European Network of American Alumni Associations (2011-13).

On his Fulbright experience, Paul had this to say for the IFAA Jubilee Directory: “Receiving a Fulbright Scholarship contributed to what was a wonderful journey on a number of levels. Over and above the opportunities to travel throughout North America, my time in the US allowed for the building of strong and enduring friendships with academics, fellow students and others with whom I came into contact. While my time in the US has proven of great academic value in terms of intellectual and professional development, for me the opportunity to experience the US up close and personal --- absorbing everything from the mundaneness of everyday life to the tragedy of 9/11 and all else in between --- was priceless. Having the time and the space to develop a greater understanding of, and appreciation for, US culture and society was a luxury I came to value and I have been sharing the fruit of that experience with family, friends, colleagues and students ever since arriving home.”
